University Master Courses

According to the Italian legislation, Masters are degrees issued on completion of courses offered outside the regular educational sequence. Masters are divided into two cathegories: Level 1 and Level 2

MASTER-LEVEL 1 (MASTER 1° LIVELLO)

Definition

A Master-Level 1 (in Italian: Master 1° livello) is a qualification corresponding to the second cycle of studies and awarded on completion of a professionally-oriented course. A Master-Level 1 is not access requirement to any third cycle courses, including Ph.D. courses.

Duration

From minimum one year to maximum two years

Workload

From minimum 60 to maximum 120 credits

Access requirements

Candidates for a place in a Master-Level 1  programme must hold one of the following degree:

  • "Laurea" issued by an Italian university;
  • Any foreign university degree corresponding to the first cycle of studies. 

Selection procedure 

As a general rule, the selection of candidates is based on the evaluation of qualifications. In case the number of applications exceeds the number of places in a programme, the selection procedure might include additional tasks.

MASTER-LEVEL 2 (MASTER 2° LIVELLO)         

Definition

A Master-Level 2 (in Italian: Master 2° livello) is a qualification corresponding to the third cycle of studies and awarded on completion of a professionally-oriented course. A Master-Level 2 is not access requirement to any third cycle courses, including Ph.D. courses.

From minimum one year to maximum two years

Workload

From minimum 60 to maximum 120 credits

Candidates for a place in a Master-Level 2 programme must hold one of the following degree:

  1. "Laurea magistrale", "Laurea Specialistica" or "Laurea Vecchio Ordinamento" issued by an Italian university;

  2. Any foreign university degree corresponding to the second cycle of studies.

As a general rule, the selection of candidates is based on the evaluation of qualifications. In case the number of applications exceeds the number of places in a programme, the selection procedure might include additional tasks.
