Health and Cell-Molecular Biology
Course Overview
The course is aimed at the training of graduates with an in-depth and integrated view of biology and with advanced knowledge on the structure and functions of biological systems, at molecular and cellular levels, with a wide multidisciplinary approach.
Specific skills of graduates are developed both in the field of basic and translational research, to promote and develop scientific and technological innovation in the biomedical and health sector; in the field of management and planning in the biomedical disciplines area, in public and private healthcare structures working in the applied research sector - pharmaceutical industries, small and medium-sized companies; in the application of specific methodologies, tools and techniques for data acquisition and analysis, to describe, interpret and solve complex biological and biomedical issues; in forensic biological analyses; in the development, control and management of biotechnological and biochemical products in the health, environmental and industrial fields; in the assessment of scientific and technological innovation as well as in the specialized scientific communication sector.
The study program of the master degree course is structured in two curricula: the curriculum “Health Biology” is oriented towards more specifically biomedical aspects and aimed at a health activity profile; the curriculum in “Cell and Molecular Biology” is oriented towards more specifically cellular and molecular methodological aspects.
Educational Goals
The course aims to train graduates with an in-depth knowledge of the methodology, the tools and the techniques of data acquisition and analysis, to be able to interpret, describe and solve complex biological issues using interdisciplinary approaches.
The study program, in accordance with skills established for biologists by the existing legislation, is characterized by an in-depth and updated theoretical and operative training in the following disciplines: biochemistry and clinical-biochemistry, molecular biology and bioinformatics, epidemiology and hygiene, pharmacology, pathophysiology, genetics and immunogenetics, microbiology and human reproduction. The educational plan is structured in two curricula: one oriented towards aspects specifically related to the biomedical area, with occupational opportunities in the health field; the other one oriented towards more practical aspects of biology, in which the cellular and molecular analyses field is more relevant.
The preparation of the experimental thesis for the final dissertation will allow students to acquire skills in the scientific approaches regarding research in the Health and Cell-Molecular Biology field, in the design and management of the scientific investigation method as well as of the tools for data analysis, with a wide operating and assessment autonomy and the ability of staying updated and being in charge of projects and structures.
The master degree provides the title to apply for Specialization Schools, Ph.D. Programs, and Second Level Masters courses.
The learning outcomes expected from graduates respond to specific requirements recognized by the Dublin-descriptors system and summarized in the Tuning matrix – in accordance with the national model proposed by the CBUI (Council of Italian University Biologists).
Job Opportunities
After professional qualification, master’s degree graduates in “Health and Cell-Molecular Biology” can join the A section of the national professional register of biologists and conduct their professional activities in the industry, health, public and private structures sectors as:
- Biologists and assimilated professions
- Biochemists
- Biotechnologists
- Geneticists
- Microbiologists
