Industrial Engineering
Course Overview
The course on Industrial Engineering derives from the unification of the pre-existing degree courses in Electrical Engineering, Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Therefore, it integrates the skills of the aforementioned degree courses in order to prepare technicians capable of designing, implementing and monitoring the operation of industrial installations and industrial systems of factories and industries in the electrical, mechanical and chemical sectors, as well as operating in the of business management.
The preparation provided to the student is, therefore, a wide disciplinary spectrum, so as to provide the specific knowledge that will be required in the business environment.
Even if the students can finish their training with the attainment of the first level degree, the course presents a structure that favors the continuation of the studies for the achievement of the master's degree.
In summary, the course provides basic knowledge and skills related to:
- electrotechnical systems and electrical measurements, machines and electrical installations;
- management of plants and business systems, logistics management and production planning;
- design, construction and operation of mechanical systems, thermotechnical systems and industrial production systems.
Educational Goals
The preparation of the student is, therefore, characterized by a wide disciplinary spectrum, respecting the traditional cultural canons of the Industrial Class addresses, without however neglecting the innovations in the more advanced cultural sectors. The course presents a structure that promotes the continuation of studies aimed at achieving the second level degree. The training offer guarantees basic and specific knowledge of:
- electrical engineering, electrical measurements, machines and electrical installations;
- techniques and methods for the management of business systems and systems, logistics and production planning;
- design and construction of mechanical systems and plants, as well as various industrial production technologies.
Graduates of the Industrial Engineering Course will have:
- solid knowledge of the methodological-operational aspects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and information technology and the economy that they will be able to use to interpret and describe the problems inherent in engineering;
- knowledge of the methodological-operational aspects of industrial engineering sciences, with specific insights into the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and management engineering, integrated with sufficient knowledge of automation and materials science.
Graduates of the Industrial Engineering Course must have:
- ability to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems, using the most up-to-date methods, techniques and calculation and measurement tools;
- skills for the design of components of electrical machines and systems, of mechanical system components, of thermo-technical systems, as well as for the management of production systems and industrial plants;
- knowledge of their professional and ethical responsibilities with particular reference to the understanding of the impact of industrial systems on the socio-economic and physical-environmental context;
- knowledge of the possible organizational organizational structures and the principles of corporate culture; ability to communicate, in written and oral form, in English as well as in Italian.
The curriculum of the CoS is divided into three years in such a way as to develop the basic disciplines during the first three semesters and to reserve the more specifically engineering disciplines for the remaining three semesters.
