Course Overview
The Data Science Master’s Degree programme is specially designed for students with an interdisciplinary approach to computer science, statistics and mathematics, economics and social sciences.
It is run across different departments and throughout the first year includes common thematic areas and training labs to introduce students to the main statistical methods and information technologies, with an insight into the applicative aspects of legal and economic/business sciences. Among their first-year challenges students will learn how to use programming languages such as Python, R and SQL, most requested by the job market.
The following year, students will devote most of their time to developing domain knowledge within the curriculum of their choosing. Many examination tests include practical activities based on real IT data analysis that students have become familiar with through software. Reports and story-telling are a typical set of tasks of a data scientist.
The course of study is delivered in English and includes an overseas learning experience and curricular internships to carry out within companies and businesses.

With a Master’s in Data Science postgraduates will be able to:
- be data analysts and data scientists within companies, or in public and private administrations;
- play roles of responsibility within consultancy;
- work in teams of scientific and technological experts using data analysis and materials for the validation of theoretical models;
- design experimental protocols and extract information from data;
- deal with issues of economic and financial nature using quantitative analysis;
- use machine learning, pattern recognition methods and other IT techniques for the automatic processing of texts, images and predictive analysis of both economic and financial arenas;
- work in the internet world such as the Internet of Things and the Industrial Internet of Things;
- work in an industrial environment for the monitoring, control and certification of production quality;
- identify the most suitable solutions for data analysis.
