Coronavirus Emergency
On January 31, 2020, the Italian Council of Ministers has announced a state of emergency as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The Council of Ministers has recently decided to extend the nationwide state of emergency until June 31, 2022.
Our Prime Minister is currently ruling over our country by a series of emergency decrees to deal with emergency and restrictive measures have been imposed throughout the country.
Italian National Service
The Civil Protection Department (Italian National Service) is responsible for the coordination of all necessary activities to both counter and deal with the emergency nationwide. Universities and schools
Italian primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education institutions, have been closed to students until the 3rd of May 2020.
At the University of Catania an emergency plan around the online education service has been set up on time by our Rector, prof. Francesco Priolo. Admin staff members still work in essential departments thanks to flexible working. A number of about 1600 online courses are currently being delivered via the Microsoft Teams platform.
