Chemical Engineering for Industrial Sustainability
Course Overview
The Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering for Industrial Sustainability is designed to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills for chemical engineers to be able to both design and manage models for complex chemical systems and industrial plants, by also selecting materials and technologies for improving the load-bearing capacity. In addition to that, the master's degree in chemical engineering for the industrial sustainability avails itself of specially designed teaching sections for students to be well trained in environmental sustainability, based on modern theories and practices.
As this is entirely English, students are required to write and discuss their thesis dissertation in English in fact. Students are expected to have a bachelor’s degree prior to the MSC in one of the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Industrial Chemistry. Students who hold a different qualification will be assessed by an ad hoc committee before entering this type of degree path. Overseas students are most welcome to apply too.
Educational Goals
Chemical Engineering for Industrial Sustainability is especially suitable for chemical engineers dealing with chemical technologies within both the pharmaceutical and the environmental industry. Sustainability towards physico-chemical processing implies and entails a traditional way of thinking alongside an innovative approach as far as reducing the production, not least the use of hazardous substances.
Practical skills, as part of students’ training, are achieved through lab activities and internship enabling them to acquire competence in a wide spectrum of situations that require technical expertise and scientific knowledge. Because of a high degree of complexity reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the job itself, students will shall be expected to find innovative solutions to problems.
In order to work safely and independently, chemical engineers do need to communicate well with relevant organizations for them to keep up with the industry requirements.
Job Opportunities
There is a whole career path ahead of chemical engineers involving innovative management and professionalism as key qualities for them to do well in the automotive industry or within a chemical or a pharmaceutical environment. Energy production as well as management alongside material transformation and processing are key ingredients in work contexts where chemical engineers are supposed to work in by designing and implementing new processes, developing industrial plants and research centres.
