European and Extra-European Languages and Cultures

The Master's degree course aims at providing students with advanced skills in both European and Extra- European languages and cultures.

From a linguistic point of view,  the students will acquire a mastery of at least two foreign languages ​​( training in the linguistic disciplines and the corresponding literatures is carried out in the specific languages), also thanks to the acquisition of the theoretical and applicative tools for the linguistic analysis and to an indispensable philological, linguistic, and glottolinguistic formation provided by the teachings related to the disciplinary sectors  L-FIL-LET / 09, L-FIL-LET / 12, L-FIL-LET / 15, L-LIN / 01, and L-LIN / 02 classes. Training also involves an in-depth knowledge of the history of the chosen languages, in a constant comparative framework where a variety of texts and genres is analyzed, so as to provide a specific understanding of the languages' structural values at both diachronic and synchronic levels. The linguistic teaching is supported by a historical and geographical curriculum,  while other philological disciplines sustain a disciplinary frame of reference;  furthermore, a comparative literature basic formation will create the indispensable background for an updated and culturally productive overview of...

Because of characterizing disciplines, the Master's degree course aims at offering a global reconstruction of the literary phenomena in all their multiple and complex aspects. Students will gain a thorough knowledge of historical-cultural coordinates, literary theories, and of the most up-to-date critical methodologies regarding the study of both  Italian and  foreign  literatures. Within this context they will also develop critical analysis skills, a high hermeneutic sensitivity,  and the capability to master a comparative approach between literary as well as other cultural forms. The formative offer in Oriental languages and disciplines will further widen the students' intellectual perspectives, and broaden an educational and professional horizon resting on a profound intercultural dialogue. Related training activities will allow the achievement of the same educational objectives also for the study of a second foreign literature.

A rich educational offer, articulated in lectures, disciplinary and interdisciplinary seminars, exercises, and multimedia laboratory activities,  will contribute to the achievement of the above mentioned educational objectives. The students will acquire  methods of study, learning, communication, and problem solving as more flexible and complex as possible.  Achievements will be assessed by written and oral tests, structured in relation to the objectives, the content, and the levels indicated for each individual discipline, and by a final test designed to achieve a congruous and targeted synthesis of the course, through the original development of a research topic, supported by a wide bibliographic survey and a congruous methodological perspective.

The linguistic and cultural competencies thus acquired will be adequate for teaching foreign languages and literature in high school, according to the current legislation, following the obtainment of the required qualification.
