Abstract

Objectivies and activities

The main aims of the IRMA project, related to the management and diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease (PD), are:
  • Evaluation of new morpho-functional markers predicting PD
  • Identification of a diagnostic protocol leading to a better diagnosis and staging of PD
  • Development of a new software that pays particular attention to data protection and BIG DATA integration.
The main aims of the IRMA project, related to the identification and implementation of rehabilitation protocol are:
  • comparison of two rehabilitation protocols in patients with PD, and identify innovative rehabilitation protocols with proven and validated effectiveness, through which can be achieved:
    • Improvement of joint function and gait patterns
    • Reduce risk of falling
    • Reduction of energy expenditure during physiological walking
    • Evaluation of the increase in maximal effort tolerance
    • Favorable social and psychological impact in patients undergoing advanced treatment in terms of walking and general motor performance
    • Evaluation of quality of life of PD patients and caregivers
  • Evaluation of new morpho-functional markers predicting rehabilitation outcomes
  • Costs analysis of the two rehabilitation protocols
  • Greater possibility of effective treatments for patients suffering from chronic pathologies
  • New development in terms of distribution of advanced technology in the field of extensive rehabilitation of neurological patients.
Another target of the IRMA project will be the development of a magnetic field sensor (RTD-Fluxgate) for the detection and measurement of heavy metals in the basal ganglia of patients with PD, helping in the diagnosis of those patients which cannot underwent MRI and for the management of the pharmacological and rehabilitation treatment, on the basis of precision medicine.
