Multistage constructed wetland for the treatment and irrigation reuse of agrofood wastewater under semi-arid climate conditions
The traineeship will be focused on the removal efficiency of a multistage constructed wetland (CW) for treatment of winery wastewater and citrus juice wastewater and their suitability for irrigation reuse. The experimental CWs are located in Southern Italy (Sicily) and treat a portion of wastewater produced by a small winery (Cantina Marabino in Noto - SR) and in big factory for orange juice production (ORTOGEL- Caltagirone CT) . Wastewater quality samples will be collected at the inlet and outlet of each stage of the treatment system and chemical-physical characteristics of wastewater will be analysed. CW efficiency will be evaluated both in terms of water quality improvement and achievement of national and European wastewater discharge and irrigation reuse limits.
